Please find below some useful links for further information arranged into sections including general careers information and links to a variety of post-16 providers. The students will have the opportunity to explore many of these sites at school as part of their careers education.
Newsletters
A careers information newsletter for parents and carers will be published each term. Please see our previous newsletters below. We also send out regular communication by email on a variety of careers events and opportunities.
General
Career Pilot – free online platform where students can explore a range of job profiles, look at different pathways for post-16 and higher education. We will be using this at school also. https://careerpilot.org.uk
National Careers Service – range of help with all aspects of career, learning and training choices. Free and impartial advice, helpline to ring and webchat available.
Apprenticeships
Amazing Apprenticeships – a wealth of information on apprenticeships and traineeships. Information for parents, students, and employers.

Local Colleges
The College websites are the best place to find the latest information, they are updated regularly with news on open events and have the latest information on courses and entry requirements. These are the main local providers:
Bournemouth and Poole College
Based across three sites, the main two being Lansdowne campus in central Bournemouth and North Rd campus in Poole. Specific courses are held at each site so generally the students do not need to travel between.
There is also a small campus The Fulcrum Centre, near Tower Park where carpentry courses are located.
The College offer a wide range of academic, professional and technical courses from Level 1 to Level 3 as well as foundation courses. They do not offer A-Levels.
Brockenhurst College
Brockenhurst College offer a wide choice of both A-Levels and vocational courses. Vocational courses range from Level 1 to Level 3.
Please check entry requirements, A-Levels typically need 4 or 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above for example and similar for Level 3 courses.
Kingston Maurward College
Kingston Maurward is based just outside of Dorchester, they run a range of full-time options with a focus on land-based courses such as agriculture, equine, horticulture etc. They do also have sport and tourism courses and a uniformed public service course for those interested in the military.
Sixth Form at local Schools
Option to study A-Levels at a local school’s Sixth Form. You apply directly to a school for post-16 study and not through the Local Authority school’s admission process.
BCP
If you search on the Family Information Directory on the website above, you will be able to filter to local schools with a Sixth Form in the BCP area.
Dorset
Again use the search facility on the website above to search for schools and then filter to sixth forms to see local options in the Dorset council area.
Kings College, Bournemouth
A post-16 college that specialises in academic pathways offering a range of A-levels and preparation for University. Accepts many international students but also local young people.
Specialist Post-16 Providers
There are a number of special schools, colleges and bespoke options that can be explored with the local authority SEND case worker who will discuss the funding process.
Please take time to look at the websites to check the admissions criteria as some require a diagnosis for example. This not an exhaustive list but a starting point for you to explore further.
Linwood Post-16 (Summerwood Campus)
Supporting students 16-19 who have a diagnosis of autism who are working at age related expectations.
Victoria School Post-16
Post 16 at Victoria Education Centre has a wide ability range, offering a choice of subjects from Entry Level to Level 2.
Aurora Boveridge
A specialist further education college providing day and residential support for young people with autism spectrum conditions or additional social, emotional and mental health needs.
Cambian Wing College
Specialist further education college offering day and residential placements to students with a diagnosis of ASD.
SWRAC
Training programmes include traineeships, ready to work programmes and bespoke alternative education provision. Main student base located in Boscombe. https://swrac.co.uk/
CHI (Classroom in the Heart of Industry) run by Linwood School
CHI is an employment and education training programme for 16-19-year olds. It is a unique opportunity to undertake on-the-job training whilst working towards recognised qualifications.
